NEET 2018: MHRD Says No To MCI Order Barring NIOS, Open School Students

In a major relief to the class 12 National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) and state open school students, the centre has decided to revert the Medical Council of India (MCI) decision which prevented them from appearing in National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET). In a major relief to the class 12 National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) and state open school students, the centre has decided to revert the Medical Council of India (MCI) decision which prevented them from appearing in National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET). According to a news report published on The New Indian Express, sources in Health Ministry told the daily that a decision had been taken in favour of the students after the Ministry of Human Resource Development opposed the move. An official notification in this regard is awaited. According to the daily, HRD Ministry told the Health Ministry that the MCI order was against the government policy on equal learning and career opportunities for open school students. "On many occasions, when students fail the Class XII boards or get a compartmental in one or more subjects, they choose open school to clear their boards. It won't be justified if they are denied the opportunity to take the NEET," and HRD official told The New Indian Express.

Only One Set Of Question Paper; Will Be Translated Into Different Languages for NEET 2018

This year there will be one question paper set for NEET candidates, CBSE informed the Supreme Court. The Board told a Bench comprising Justices Arun Mishra and F.A. Nazeer that earlier students were allowed to take NEET in 10 languages, including Hindi and English. In the wake of the issues in NEET 2017, the apex court had cited this as an 'illogical practice' to which the Board has agreed for one question paper which would be translated into different languages. The top court had disagreed with the board’s contention that if the level of difficulty of all papers was the same, then it served the purpose of uniformity in the examination and there was nothing wrong in having multiple sets of question papers. Amidst various allegations over the 'misconduct' of the exam, setting of different question papers was highly vocalized by candidates. After much embarrassment, Union Human Resource Development minister Prakash Javadekar, on 23 July 2017 (a month after the declaration of the NEET 2017 result) told PTI that the vernacular question papers for the national level medical entrance examination will 'be mere translation of the question paper in English' in the future. The students who had appeared for the exam in regional languages had complained to HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar that the NEET question papers were different than those in Hindi and English. The official notification for NEET 2018 is not out yet; though it is expected this week. As of now, the Board has only updated about the syllabus. CBSE has recently released a major update on the NEET 2018 examinations syllabus. According to the board, the Syllabus of NEET 2018 will be exactly same as it was for NEET, 2017. NEET 2018 Preparation Tips, How to Prepare for NEET Exam

NEET Preparation Tips 2018 helps the students to score good marks in the examination. National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test (NEET 2018) will be governed by the CBSE Board for selecting students for admission into various medical and dental courses such as MBBS and BDS. This is only medical entrance test organized for admission in medical courses that’s why a large number of students appear for this exam. NEET examination is one of the toughest examination, but it can be cracked easily by implementing the tips and tricks. Here we are providing tips & tricks for How to Prepare for NEET 2018.

Any competitive exam requires months of preparation and even a single silly mistake can cost you a lot, considering the amount and level of competition. But sometimes we are so concerned about covering the syllabus and counting the days left for main exam that we almost forget about few simple mistakes that we do. If we go with the experts and NEET toppers, dedicated practice and revision are the major factors that can lead to success. If you are somebody targeting the upcoming medical tests, go through these tips to crack NEET 2018 Exam.

1. Through With NEET  Exam Syllabus
NEET Syllabus is as vast as an ocean, and you need to know the exact location to fish the best output. Cut down on extra information and focus on important topics. Since we know NEET exam covers NCERT syllabus as well, you can compare the syllabus with your Board exam syllabus. It is beneficial for you if there are common chapters as you will not need to prepare them separately. This will give you ample time to concentrate on the parts of the syllabus that are not covered.

2.Good Study Material
Selecting the right study material for NEET is little confusing, with the help of teachers and online expert assistance, you can choose the right one. You can consult NEET toppers and see which book they referred. Of course, they won’t be reachable for all of you. So, you can read NEET topper interviews and try to get an idea about their preparation style. You should prepare study notes for NEET, solve previous years’ question papers and take mock tests to improve your speed and accuracy.

3.Effective Study Plan
Goal setting can be used as a strategy to help aspirants bring positive changes into their lives. Candidates should prepare a good time-table for the exam preparations. Until and unless you make a complete and thorough schedule of the way you want to study, you will not be able to complete the syllabus. Plan for the week in advance and figure out chapters that you need to prepare from the beginning.

4.Emphasize On Weaker Areas
Sometimes students are very strong in one subject and weak in the other. Do not get discouraged by the same. Try and work hard more on the weaker areas to strengthen them. Take help from a friend or senior or extra classes for the subject. It will help in overcoming the fear of your weakness effectively.

5.Practice Mock Test Papers
One of the greatest challenges of the NEET examination is the time limitation. Students have to finish 180 questions in 180 minutes (3 hours). It means they can give a maximum of 1 minute per question. Time management is a mandatory skill that is required for this exam. While practicing at home, make sure that you keep the time limitation in mind. Focus on the frequently asked questions, topics and pattern.

6.Regular Study Breaks
It is essential to realize that one can’t maintain an optimum level of concentration without taking an optimum break to recover. But beware that you don’t bring the breaks on a higher priority than studies. Breaks can be in the form of a ten-minute walk, a trip to the gym, having a chat with a friend or simply taking a small nap.

7.Use New Technologies
Many candidate study by highlighting in the textbooks and making notes with a pen on a scrap of paper. These methods still find their place and importance, but there are countless options for personalising study than ever before. Be it through online tools, social media, blogs, videos or mobile apps, learning has become easy, interesting and user-centred today.

8.No Guessworks
Many candidates have the tendency of taking the guesswork route for solving questions they don’t know. However, it might prove risky in this case as there is negative marking for a wrong answer. It is recommended to leave a question completely if you do not know the right answer. This is one of the most important tips to crack NEET 2018 that anyone can give!

9.Health Is Everything
It’s crucial to evaluate yourself both physically and mentally while preparing for the exams as candidates should take care of their health. With a better health you can concentrate better in your studies. Avoid junk and oily foods and switch to healthy diet plans. Do meditation and yoga exercises for better concentration. All these tips to crack NEET 2018 would be useless without this one factor!

10.Positivity is imperative
Your attitude decides the effectiveness of the learning process. If you possess a negative approach and keep saying that you can’t do it, then this won’t commit to the idea of learning. A grumbling approach will only make things difficult. The moment you start thinking positively, your brain will show greater activity. A right frame of mind also makes you feel less anxious and more open to new ideas.

An IITian Tells You if NCERT is Enough For JEE (Mains)

JEE (Mains) is based on the concepts given in NCERT textbooks. The answer to the above question is, however, equivocal. It relies on the relative aspirations of the students.
I have the experience of solving the AIEEE Papers from 2008-2012 and I have appeared in JEE (Mains) 2013 and 2014. From my experience, I can say that” If you are thorough with NCERT, then you can score easily around 200/360. But it is definitely not enough to score above 250.” A genuine doubt which may arise is that if one can score above 200 with simply covering the NCERT, why is then only less than 15,000 students out of 14 lakh students appearing in the exam achieve that feat.

I have two plausible explanations to this. First, NCERT text books are full of jargons and it requires a lot of depth to assimilate them. There are certain concepts in NCERT which are not explicitly specified. Students have to derive meanings on their own. To elucidate my point I would like to quote an example. NCERT Chemistry textbook merely states the Markownikoff Rule and Saytzeff Rule without giving an insight into the reaction intermediate formed, that governs the formation of the final product. A student who simply follows the NCERT will end up mugging up the lines, without actually understanding the mechanisms. Second, NCERT textbooks lack enough practice questions. Being thorough with the concepts demands rigorous practice and regular brush-up of your concepts. Students who are not exposed to any practice materials like question banks but NCERT are used to a straight-forward way of answering subjective questions. But Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) are asked in JEE (Mains), which are often confounding. Definitely, NCERT is not enough.
However, if you analyze the questions asked in previous years, you will find at least one direct organic reaction is asked from the NCERT. Even the questions of p-block and other inorganic reactions asked in the exam are never beyond NCERT and are usually straight-forward. Physical chemistry, however, demands problem-solving aptitude which requires you to go beyond NCERT. There are some topics like Statistics, Mathematical Reasoning in Mathematics, from which at least one question is asked every year and these are directly based on NCERT. Even the questions from 3D Geometry, vectors, complex numbers and coordinate geometry are based on NCERT exercise questions. Physics, however, requires a different approach. One has to solve problems from books like H.C. Verma, in addition to the NCERT questions to gain a good command over the subject. Nevertheless, the questions asked in electromagnetism, fluid mechanics and even modern physics are often directly taken from NCERT. ‘Semi-conductor devices’, ‘Electromagnetic Waves’ and ‘Communication’ are the topics which are factual. But the facts and figures, if ever asked, are never beyond NCERT.
One of the best ways to excel in any exam is to solve the previous years’ papers. This will give an insight into the types of questions being asked in the exam. Once you start solving these questions, a feeling will sink into you that many questions are NCERT based. Develop an ability to question mere statements of NCERT. I hope my article proves helpful for the students and instil a belief that they can clear JEE (Mains) with a good rank by having a thorough understanding of the concepts of NCERT.

Anyone can learn something new, but how do you keep it from slipping out the back door of your brain?

For Math, the key is to practice. One should practice at least 15-20 problems on each sub topic of a chapter and then previous years’ questions. If you’ve practiced enough number of questions you’ll remember the formulas and the concepts. There is no point in sitting down and try to by-heart the formulas as exam problems will not ask you to write down the formulas but how to apply it. Hence the key for Math is solving a lot of problems.

For Physics, remembering the formulae or a particular concept does not guarantee that you can solve the problem. There are thousands of concepts and very few formulae. Every new question that you come across seems completely different. Hence for Physics one should concentrate on the concepts more than the formulae. You cannot solve all types of problems of a chapter in Physics because there are too many different types of problems, so concentrate on how the last problem was solved, remember the concept and go through each step very carefully and try to understand the approach for the step instead of the calculation.
For Chemistry: The major problem one faces during an exam is trying to remember Chemistry topics, especially Organic Reactions and Inorganic. Chemistry concepts are easy to understand but incredibly tough to remember because of the sheer quantity. A common mistake that most students do here is their approach to revising a concept. What students do is that they keep their notebooks open, read something (like a reaction), and say it in their heads and keep re-reading it multiple times. This approach is extremely time-consuming. The best way to learn reactions is this – Read a few reactions (say 5-6 Carbonyl Reactions), try to remember them and then keep the notebook away. Now whenever you have 5-6 minutes free during the day (like when you are travelling or sitting and watching TV), take a piece of paper and try to write the reactions (with the steps) as much as you can. You obviously won’t get everything correct. Even if you don’t have pen and paper just try to remember it in your head. The key is to not use the notebook at all. When you are done, get the notebook and see where you went wrong. If you do this 3-4 times, the next time you’ll be able to write the reactions (with their names) easily. This way you will not waste hours and hours of precious time in trying to remember and your brain will have enough time to freshen up, as anyone can tell you that you can’t learn 100 reactions in 2 days.
